Ciorstaidh Hayward Trevarthen, Dorset Council’s Finds Liaison Officer (FLO), will be here to identify your discoveries. If you have objects unearthed through metal detecting, fieldwalking or casual finds from gardening etc. then please bring them along.
Ciorstaidh works as part of the National Portable Antiquities Scheme for the voluntary recording of finds, which aims to advance knowledge of the history and archaeology of England and Wales by systematically recording archaeological objects found by the public. The scheme records thousands of items of pottery and flint, metal objects, coins and other finds (from prehistory to around 1650) each year.
The FLO may wish to borrow your finds for detailed recording on the scheme database. This information is then passed to the Historic Environment Record and will contribute to our understanding of Dorset’s past.
