First World War Drop In Days

The museum is launching the new 'East Dorset First World War' database and website on Saturday 29 August. This initiative is part of the museum's project 'The One Hundred Year Heritage of the First World War for Wimborne and East Dorset', which is running throughout the period marking the centenary of the war, and will give local people the chance to research the effect of the war across the district. The project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

70th Anniversary of VJ Day

A WW1 Piece with BOK Theatre

The museum is the venue for bok Theatre's performance of 'A WW1 Piece' on Saturday 15 August, 2.45 or 4.45 (performance time approximately 50 minutes). This piece theatrically looks at the Great War. From the patriotic excitement and propaganda, to the boy soldiers, trench life, poets and shell shock victims, bok Theatre will seek to bring the reality of the conflict to life, taking the audience on a roller-coaster of emotions.

The Summer Fete in the Secret Garden

On Saturday 8 August the museum’s wonderful walled garden will play host to a Summer Fete. The garden's hidden alcoves and secluded lawns will be packed with events and activities for all the family from 10.00 to 4.00. It is a wonderful chance to take a peek behind the museum's High Street façade and discover this secret treasure with its colourful herbaceous borders, traditional vegetable patch and fruit trees.

The museum is giving young nature lovers the opportunity to go wild every Wednesday afternoon from 1.00 to 2.30 over the next few weeks, thanks to its friends at the Dorset Wildlife Trust. Join Dorset Wildlife Trust to find out more about the garden's creatures and get stuck in with craft activities, quizzes and trails. There will be ideas to make garden visitors welcome at home. Each week there will be a different theme.

A hidden treasure in the centre of Wimborne Minster is the Garden Tea Room at the museum. New for this summer, access to the tea room will be free for any tea room customers every Monday until the end of September. There is a separate admission charge for visitors to the house and museum.
