Human Resources Consultant/Advisory Firm Sought

The Board of Trustees wishes to source an experienced Human Resources consultant/advisor.

Role: Freelance Consultant/Advisory Firm to support the Board of Trustees of the Priest’s House Museum in all areas of HR
Location: Working from home/office and as required at the Priest’s House Museum, The Museum of East Dorset, Wimborne, BH21 1HR
Fee: To be agreed, subject to scope of services
Reporting to: The Chair of Trustees, Mr David Morgan
Period of contract: Ongoing, depending on the requirements of the Trust

Background:
The Priest’s House Museum is a small independent charitable museum situated in the market town of Wimborne, Dorset. The Trust currently employs 9 staff and has over 150 volunteers. Following the retirement of the Priest’s House Museum Trust’s Human Resources consultant, the Board of Trustees wishes to source an experienced Human Resources consultant/advisor on an ad hoc basis.

The Trust is looking for a HR consultant/consultancy/advisory firm with a working knowledge of Human Resources management, especially in the area of change management and within the museum/charitable sector. You will be able to demonstrate appropriate experience in consulting as well as dealing with a range of HR issues. You will be a strategic thinker as well as a proactive problem solver and be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills.

Main purpose:
An experienced consultant is required to advise and assist the Board of Trustees of the Priest’s House Museum in all areas of HR.

Main tasks:

  • To research, draft, amend or update the Trust’s employment policies in line with current legislative requirements
  • Assist in the development and integration of HR related policies
  • To implement performance management procedures in place and to ensure that the right training is given to trustees, staff and volunteers
  • Assist in recruiting staff, including writing job and person specifications and adverts
  • To provide HR advice and guidance to the Board of Trustees and Museum Director to ensure that performance is managed consistently across the museum
  • To assist in dealing with the resolution of issues relating to staff and/or volunteers
  • Assist the Board and Director in developing and implementing plans and techniques to drive change and culture management to fulfil the museum’s strategic aims

Qualifications and knowledge:

  • CIPD qualified (or equivalent)
  • Extensive HR experience, ideally with a similar museum/charitable organisation
  • An up-to-date knowledge of Charity and Employment Law
  • A working knowledge of the heritage/cultural sector, preferably in museums
  • Demonstrable experience of managing grievance, disciplinary and restricting processes
  • Demonstrate experience of the restructuring process
  • Demonstrate experience to facilitate changes and improvements to processes
  • Demonstrate experience of recruiting staff, retention and development
  • An understanding of GDPR
  • Excellent communications skills both written and verbal
  • Insurance policy/professional indemnity will be required (if asked for interview a copy will be required for the interview panel to view)
