Tivoli Theatre exhibition
Tivoli Theatre marks 25th anniversary with exhibition.
As Wimborne's Art-Deco Tivoli Theatre prepares to celebrate 25 years since its re-opening on 23 November 1993, the museum is mounting an exhibition telling the Tivoli's story.
The exhibition starts with its earliest incarnation as a Georgian town house with a large rear garden, and moving on to the building of a state of the art cine-theatre, opening on 23 August 1936 and thriving during the Second World War and after, until its sad demise in April 1980.
The display also covers the fight to save the old, then derelict building from further decay and demolition and its re-birth as a lively and well supported venue, offering live music and drama as well as top comedy performers, the latest films and satellite broadcasts.
Emphasis is put on the importance of volunteers and community support, all of which has enabled the theatre to enhance the cultural life of an already lively town, with a programme of ongoing improvements to both the building and its technical capabilities.
The exhibition opens on 15 October and runs until 22 December 2018.
