Going behind the scenes to uncover the past

The museum is offering behind the scenes guided tours.

Thomas Good Coles and John Low

The museum is offering behind the scenes guided tours. The bookable tours are on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 June 2019 at 10.00am, 12.00pm and 2.00pm, and Tuesday 11 and Thursday 13 June at 7.00pm.

Visitors will be able to discover the history of the Priest's House and our plans for redevelopment ahead of the new museum and information centre opening in spring 2020.

The rooms in this Grade II* listed townhouse have been emptied before works begin. This offers a unique opportunity to see more of the building's many period features. The oldest part of the house dates back to the Elizabethan period and each subsequent generation has made its mark. Find out about some of the building's previous occupants, from Georgian wool and silk merchants to a Victorian stationer.

The guided tour will also reveal our plans for the new museum and information centre. We have been awarded a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant of £982,200. The grant will be used to enhance the visitor and volunteer experience and ensure that it is fit for the challenges of the 21st century. This grant forms part of the £1.6 million Revival project. The works include an enhanced frontage, full access to the first floor galleries for the first time, and new exhibitions and displays.

Tickets cost £5 (including refreshments) and are available from Wimborne Tourist Information Centre or on 01202 886116. Booking is essential and places are limited.
