The museum is the venue for ‘GI Joe in Dorset’ on Thursday 19 September at 7.30pm.
‘GI Joe in Dorset’ is a play about war, prejudice and redemptive love revealing secrets, lies, laughter and hope, by Tony Horitz and Sharon Muiruri.
‘GI Joe in Dorset’ is currently touring to arts venues, schools and universities in Dorset and Hampshire during September and October (Black History Month). This powerful play tells the moving story of an African American GI stationed in rural Dorset shortly before D-Day in 1944.
‘GI Joe in Dorset’ was first developed as a Theatre in Education programme addressing issues of heritage, morality, citizenship, civil rights and inclusion, and developed as part of Development Education in Dorset (DEED)’s larger scale ‘We Were Here’ Arts Heritage Lottery Funded Arts and History project.
Tickets cost £7 for adults and £6 for concessions, available in advance from the museum. Booking is recommended as places are limited.
